the making of a chip...ketchup to be exact

My favourite potato chips of all time are Old Dutch. Yup you guessed it ketchup flavour.. or salt and vinegar..but if it was my choice.. it would be ketchup each and every time.. Now mind you I don't put ketchup on my hotdogs... as I sit here devouring a bag with my daughter.. hehe..
so on the back of the bag.. which I prolly have never taken the time to read.. it says..

A Canadian Flavour Favourite!
It started in Winnipeg (funny cuz thats where I was born) back in 1954. (ya sorry not my year!)
A little known potato chip company with a lot of heart and a passion for quality became the talk of the town. Since 1954, news of these great tasting chips spread across the country. Today the Old Dutch name is recognized by Canadians from coast to coast.

And after googling the company I just found out they ship worldwide!!! ah the world is a much better place for it too...

check it out.. all the different flavours!! yummm

If you would like to send a gift in form of Ketchup chips.. I can send you my shipping info.. hehe

me.. curious.. nahhh

I was a bit curious as to "true north".. I mean I have heard that expression.. and thought.. okay.. google it.. as my dear friend would clearly point out..
and wikipedia has a few... okay alot on that...

True north refers to the direction of the North Pole relative to the navigator's position.

Also in music, media.. and literature.. other uses are:
when I read them.. I had to laugh.. a horse.. a aussie ship.. a canadian ship.. and then nuts.. LOL.. great combo..

well for me.. true north.. is more of a direction, your path.. where your heading.. and how did you get there, or how did you get pointed that way... cuz again its not just about the place.. as it is your state of being..

and what is your state of being.. the overall physical condition of a person....well for me.. its certainly gotten better... and after reading the above.. "true north".. I have to say.. I fall into the horse, aussie ship, canadian nut category.. LOL..

Corning to Ellensburg

5- Dying is something we all must do
For death is no more than a turning of us over from time to eternity. ~William Penn

The snow was quite peaceful as we made our way up through Oregon, laying there making the land we drove quite beautiful. You couldn’t ask for more as you drove through trees of white as they glistened, holding the snow that had fallen only a little earlier. Quite an amazing sight to see the first snow of the season. Only so many people get to see such a sight when many people live in dry baron lands. Bridget adds.. yes I agree Aaron was truly a sight to behold..

My achem.. our first stop was at a Vista Point looking out at Mt Shasta, not that I really noticed the Mount sitting there in all its glory. I was more occupied in seeing my first snow in over 10 years. I had to change my shoes. While I took pictures, I was pelted with snow balls which of course hit me. You were an easy target.. what can I say! Not a very friendly start to my snow vacation but you live and learn, I should have been the first to have thrown the snow but of course, living in Australia, it isn’t the first thing to come to mind. I wouldn’t like to know what would happen to me if I went outside and threw a clump of dirt at someone while they took pictures with an expensive camera. The sound of a snow plow grounding the ice down to nothing noted the time we left the vista point to continue our journey north.

As the journey got further and further north, the roads became icier and icier. Seeing white ice roads is a joy at first until you realize what can happen to the joy of driving on ice roads. Passing cars in ditches as they have run off the road always puts worry into a mind. If they go off, so can I. Several cars and a trailer of worry sitting in a roadside gutter. The journey goes on, slowly. painfully slow I might add!!! will you please release your death grip you have on that handle??

Along this journey came a truck stop where we got to purchase a coffee just so we could use the toilets. Oh yeah, I needed to relieve myself. As we stopped, the snow came down. Perfect for driving. Believing it would be safer to put on snow chains, we took our coffees and our sense of belief that it would be easy to put snow chains on and put our coffees down and set to work. When you have no idea and never have seen snow chains, it really isn’t that easy to put snow chains on. The instructions weren’t really that helpful on the bag too. After seeing how one snow chain went on with a little help from a truckie, we set to work on installing the other one.
Taking our journey down the road with a clang clang clang, we pulled up on the side of the road to readjust the snow chain when slosh, I got covered in icy water from a passing truck. Deep Breaths. ok I have to add here.. your face!!! you should have seen your face.. the disbelief in your eyes...that water mixed with snow could be so bone chilling cold!!! Further along we travel with a clang clang clang. Pulling into a rest stop again, we adjust the snow chains again with a little more success. Back on the road again, the roads start to clear up, so into a side road we go to remove the chains.

When the roads clear up and you have been driving slowly, it can lead to a false perception that the traction on the car will be good. Barreling down the roads that have been ice for that last 50 miles is always a good idea. Barreling.. LOL!! Can you only imagine what happens when you hit ice at speed??? Yes that’s right, you go right, towards the gutter pointing at the trees that are on the side of the road, then you go left, pointing at the on-coming truck and the 5 other cars behind the truck, then you go right again this time pointing in the intended direction the car and road is meant for. I am sure the truck driver pulled up at the same truck stop and asked about a black SUV on a suicide mission. And I am sure he didn't have to pay for a coffee to use the restrooms either.. to change his shorts!! That night we made it to Ellensburg, as it was already dark, we didn’t want to push our luck going over Rogers pass without much Vision. Actually it was Blewet Pass.. and seeing that name.. I think we were wise to hang it up.. especially after our truck decided to go skating at 50 mph..hey.. we made it.. didn't we??? and weren't YOU driving..

Nickel Plate hike

One of the many adventures... snow shoeing.. here we are hiking up to Nickel Plate Lake... initially when we started out the sun was out.. and about 20 minutes into the hike.. it started to snow..

I stopped a few times.. just to listen... to hear the trees swaying in the wind.. some of them were cracking.. not sure if it was from the weight of the snow on them.. or if they were getting ready to fall.. either way.. to stand in the stillness.. to just be.. to see.. and to feel the snow falling around you.. the cool wind.. making your cheeks tingle...and when you walk.. you can hear the snow crunch under your feet..we didn't do much talking while on this hike.. it was the sheer enjoyment of being outdoors, listening and enjoying nature around us..

We did stop to make some snow angels.. which is always fun..

one thing you should try though.. is to taste fresh falling snow.. either by catching the snowflakes on your tongue.. or.. how I was shown you brush away the top layer of snow.. grab a handful and then chomp on that.. I forgot how good snow is.. we did leave our mark.. relax.. the mark I am talking about is writing your name in the snow.. we all know how long that's gonna last while the snow is currently falling!!! I did see a bit of it on our hike back.. but trust me.. it's not there now.. haha... my motto.. tread lightly.. leave only footprints if you must.

I love to imagine what's been there before me.. well this time I got to see...
that's whats great about snow fall is the tracks the animals leave behind.. even the birds..

When we got to the lake.. it looked like a blizzard was hitting.. but really it wasn't... it was the vast openness of the lake.. the wind.. and the blowing snow... made it look so cold... but even in that there was a beauty to it.. the way the snowflakes were driven to the ground.. the way the wind would pick up the powdery snow.. and just whirl it in whatever direction it wanted.. watching how the snow would drift up next to a tree stump.. or how it would just blast across the frozen lake water..

Stood there.. watching.. then dropped to my knees.. thought ya.. time out.. really what I was doing was checking to see if it was snowball making snow.. and nope.. it wasn't wet enuf.. cuz I sure wanted to nail some peeps with a good ol'fashioned snowball fight..

Random facts: took us about an hour and a bit to hike in.. was a pretty mild hike.. nothing too steep.. was well traveled.. we followed the snow mobile trails.. even though on that hike .. we passed all of 4 peeps.. and they were Nordic skiing.. isn't it still called cross country..?? anyhoo.. it was a great day.. bring water even though we had plenty of snow surrounding us.. haha.. nothing like a good long drink... now had we been thinking we would have brought a thermos of hot cocoa.. but nope.. we were too excited to think.. the hike back seemed shorter.. only because the hunger made us move quicker..

Great ending to an amazing day.. had a friend of my sistas that gave us access to their condo, we brought up all kinds of leftovers.. steak, turkey, potatoes.. and we heated that up.. had some hot cocoa..
got the fire going.. and played madgab.. and watched the snow continue to fall.. perfect day.. perfect company..

The Landing

My flight time landed me in LA during peak hour traffic on a Friday, the Friday before Thanksgiving week. Perfect timing. There is never really a good time for LA traffic but that is one of the worst. It took longer then normal to get to the motel and relax even just for a little bit. That’s when the night started. Going out for drinks and drinking lots is always a bad thing but doing it with little sleep makes it even worse. The night was spent in a little bar called “Cowboy Palace” http://www.cowboypalace.com/
A few bourbons here, a few bourbons there. A little bit of redbull and the intoxication slowly crept in. The night was memorable for the company of the night. Meeting a friend of a friend was quite fun and its always nice to meet nice, lovely people. Other people we met on the night was a Man from Illinois and his wife, who liked to bare her breasts in what she called a shirt but was the size of a face towel. Of course, lots of perving from so called pool “watchers” was being done. After the pool playing ended and the drinking stopped, chips I believe were purchased and slowly eaten. The trip back to the motel with the window open was fun. The cold winter LA air kept me from throwing up in the car. Getting back to the motel was when I started to hug the toilet bowl. Always FUN! I slept quite well though after the vomiting stopped.

My Trip to Canada
Flying out from Albury made my trip all that easier, I didn’t have to organize a drive down to Melbourne which is a three hour drive. My last trip to LA I had an overnight stay in a Holiday Inn which added to the cost of the trip. This time it was fly straight out to LA from my own town.
There were no real issues on the travel. Although it threatened to be a bad trip with a two hour delay from Albury due to the Airport being closed in Sydney due to storms. I was sitting in Albury airport thinking “oh no, what if I miss my flight, what if I don’t get to go at all”. None the less, I still made it to the International flight on time but there was still delay when we had boarded the plane because of other delayed flights due to storms. We just had to wait for the people to show up. The flight was a little turbulent but nothing that threatened us dropping out of the sky. The turbulence did put us behind time again as we had caught up time in the first half of the flight then lost it all again.
Arriving in LA was a relief, my 15 hours of sitting was over. Collecting my bags, I found another bag quite the same as mine. Luckily I used my Aussie lanyard from last time so I could pick my bag out.

sometimes its cold

Standing in the quietness... gazing at the frozen lake.. feeling the artic wind blow on my face, the majestic mountains before me, not a cloud in the sky.... I felt so alive, and so dang cold!

Getting here and I don't mean physically getting here.. I mean where I am in my heart, my head..
I look at my life again as an adventure.. and that's one thing I don't want to lose. My heart.. well.. let's just say its open again too.

I am new to this blogging... so please understand a few things about me.. I am random... I don't write in complete sentences.. and there are times that there is more then one meaning to it.. and as you can tell... grammar and punctuation not high on my list.. what you will get.. is complete honesty, sometimes silly, occasionally funny.. but all the time.. me.....
