Nickel Plate hike

One of the many adventures... snow shoeing.. here we are hiking up to Nickel Plate Lake... initially when we started out the sun was out.. and about 20 minutes into the hike.. it started to snow..

I stopped a few times.. just to listen... to hear the trees swaying in the wind.. some of them were cracking.. not sure if it was from the weight of the snow on them.. or if they were getting ready to fall.. either way.. to stand in the stillness.. to just be.. to see.. and to feel the snow falling around you.. the cool wind.. making your cheeks tingle...and when you walk.. you can hear the snow crunch under your feet..we didn't do much talking while on this hike.. it was the sheer enjoyment of being outdoors, listening and enjoying nature around us..

We did stop to make some snow angels.. which is always fun..

one thing you should try though.. is to taste fresh falling snow.. either by catching the snowflakes on your tongue.. or.. how I was shown you brush away the top layer of snow.. grab a handful and then chomp on that.. I forgot how good snow is.. we did leave our mark.. relax.. the mark I am talking about is writing your name in the snow.. we all know how long that's gonna last while the snow is currently falling!!! I did see a bit of it on our hike back.. but trust me.. it's not there now.. haha... my motto.. tread lightly.. leave only footprints if you must.

I love to imagine what's been there before me.. well this time I got to see...
that's whats great about snow fall is the tracks the animals leave behind.. even the birds..

When we got to the lake.. it looked like a blizzard was hitting.. but really it wasn't... it was the vast openness of the lake.. the wind.. and the blowing snow... made it look so cold... but even in that there was a beauty to it.. the way the snowflakes were driven to the ground.. the way the wind would pick up the powdery snow.. and just whirl it in whatever direction it wanted.. watching how the snow would drift up next to a tree stump.. or how it would just blast across the frozen lake water..

Stood there.. watching.. then dropped to my knees.. thought ya.. time out.. really what I was doing was checking to see if it was snowball making snow.. and nope.. it wasn't wet enuf.. cuz I sure wanted to nail some peeps with a good ol'fashioned snowball fight..

Random facts: took us about an hour and a bit to hike in.. was a pretty mild hike.. nothing too steep.. was well traveled.. we followed the snow mobile trails.. even though on that hike .. we passed all of 4 peeps.. and they were Nordic skiing.. isn't it still called cross country..?? anyhoo.. it was a great day.. bring water even though we had plenty of snow surrounding us.. haha.. nothing like a good long drink... now had we been thinking we would have brought a thermos of hot cocoa.. but nope.. we were too excited to think.. the hike back seemed shorter.. only because the hunger made us move quicker..

Great ending to an amazing day.. had a friend of my sistas that gave us access to their condo, we brought up all kinds of leftovers.. steak, turkey, potatoes.. and we heated that up.. had some hot cocoa..
got the fire going.. and played madgab.. and watched the snow continue to fall.. perfect day.. perfect company..
